Oracy around Australia has been based on the book Are we there yet? by Alison Lester, using the language framework of sounds - words - sentences - text. In addition it provides extra language activities based around a set of general knowledge topics related to Australia. It is ideal for small groups, but works very well as a whole class focus for one term, exploring the geography and history of this country and going on an online class tour of Australia. The program is aimed at the middle to upper primary school years, and encourages support people and students to further explore text by complimenting the program with materials such as travel brochures, web sites, postcards, newspaper clippings etc. There are ten lesson plans that follow the book from beginning to end, supplying clear lesson plans and easily reproduced student materials. The activities are engaging and motivating, particularly when enhanced with some of the suggested extension activities for tapping into resources such as power point and front page.
